The exhibition “PAPER ON PAPER – and other routines” presents the photopolymer series Paper on Paper and Aside by Elena Grudzinskaitė.

The works are an inquiry into the daily artistic practice and the seemingly monotonous encounters with a repetitive environment.

Paper on paper is various paper fragments and scraps used in an artist’s daily life for storing, archiving and preserving prints that are creatively transferred onto photopolymer plates.

The artist wants to create an opportunity to reflect on the continuity of the creative process by presenting collections of recycled secondary artistic raw materials in a print format. Her personal philosophy of sustainable creation is realized by applying a unique method of “utilizing” the artistic archive and conscious act of creation from old to new.

Aside presents familiar, monotonous images seen from the perspective of a dweller, wanderer or traveller moving through everyday life. It captures what you register in the peripheral of your vision: Ordinary objects, situations, and elements of the landscape that remain at the margins – passed by, passed through, or ignored. Yet these overlooked elements form the unadorned texture of present reality.

About the residency and exhibition
Working at Munk Print Lab 16-20 of March, Elena Grudzinskaitė will develop the Paper on Paper project with the paper material from the print lab studio.

The residence will be a way of collaboration between the studios, the artists, exploration of the environment through the medium of paper.

About the artist
Elena Grudzinskaitė (b. 1987, lives and works in Vilnius) graduated from Master degree of Graphic Art at Vilnius Art Academy in 2012, and since 2015 works at the Graphic Art Department of Vilnius Academy of Arts, is an associate professor, the head of Graphic Art department. Since 2014 she has been a member of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association.

She has been participating in local and international art projects since 2010. She is an active participant of international interdisciplinary art exhibitions, biennials and triennials, has presented her body of work in 9 personal shows. Alongside, she organizes projects promoting graphic art, and curate visual art shows.

Works are in the MO Museum in Vilinus and private collections.

In her artistic practice, Grudzinskaitė explores the relationship between the individual and their surrounding environment, as well as its transformation over time. She uses graphic art and printmaking as a means to investigate its temporal parameters, fragility, and continuity.
